Boiler Plants for Hospitals That Never Close

Steam and hot water plant replacement, sterile processing steam, and domestic hot water for hospitals and healthcare facilities across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. Planned, phased, and executed without taking the building down.

Why this market is different

You Cannot Turn the Building Off

Most facilities get a window. A school has a summer. A plant has a holiday shutdown. An office has a weekend. A hospital has none of those. Surgery is scheduled, beds are full, sterile processing runs overnight, and the census does not drop because a boiler reached the end of its service life.

So the hard part of a hospital boiler project is almost never the boiler. It is the sequence. What carries the load while the old unit comes out, how the tie-in happens without dropping steam pressure to the sterile processing department, which weekend has the lowest census, and who is on site at three in the morning if the temporary plant stumbles.

That is planning work, and it happens months before anything is ordered.

The Question to Ask First

Not which boiler, but what carries the load during the changeover and for how long. Once the temporary plan is real, the permanent selection tends to answer itself. Projects that skip this step are the ones that stall at the tie-in with equipment already sitting on the loading dock.

What we supply

The Plant, and the Plan to Replace It

Phased Plant Replacement

Sequenced boiler replacement in an operating facility, worked out with your engineering department and the contractor before equipment is ordered rather than after it arrives.

Temporary and Rental Boilers

Rental boilers carrying the building through a changeover, a failure, or a shoulder season, with the connections and controls to match what you already have.

Steam for Sterile Processing

Autoclave and sterilizer loads arrive in bursts and set the pressure floor for the whole plant. Sizing for that schedule matters more than sizing for the heating season.

Domestic Hot Water

Heaters, storage, and feedwater systems where delivery temperature is a documented control measure rather than a comfort setting.

Humidification and Reheat

Steam humidification and reheat supporting operating rooms, isolation rooms, and the ventilation conditions your clinical spaces are held to.

Service and Emergency Response

ASME certified welders, around the clock service and repair, and a group that has been inside occupied buildings in this region for seventy years.

Where the boiler room meets the survey

Hot Water Is Now a Documented Program

Since June 2017, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has expected certified facilities to maintain water management policies and procedures aimed at reducing the risk of Legionella and other waterborne pathogens, pointing at ANSI and ASHRAE Standard 188 as the framework. Temperature management sits among the control measures those programs are built on, and the Joint Commission asks similar questions during survey.

Which pulls the domestic hot water plant out of the mechanical room and into a compliance conversation. Storage temperature, delivery temperature, recirculation, and the records proving all three behaved are no longer only an engineering matter.

We are not consultants on your water management program and we will not pretend to be. What we can do is make sure the equipment side of it behaves predictably and that you have the documentation when somebody asks for it.

How we work

Redundancy Is Not a Line Item Here

In most buildings, standby capacity is something value engineering removes. In a hospital it is the reason the project is defensible. You cannot schedule an outage, so the plant has to tolerate losing a boiler on the coldest night of the year without anyone in the building noticing.

That usually argues for more units rather than bigger ones, and for a control sequence somebody has actually tested rather than one that exists on paper. It also argues for knowing, before you need to know, how fast a temporary unit can be on site and running.

Service and repair

Who we work with

Who Calls Us

Facilities and Plant Operations

Directors and chief engineers carrying aging plants, deferred capital, and no window in which to fix either.

Healthcare Design Firms

Engineers phasing a plant replacement who need to know what a temporary arrangement actually costs and how long it takes to stand up.

Mechanical Contractors

Contractors working nights and weekends inside occupied units, who need equipment and support that show up when the window opens.

Questions we get

Hospital Boiler Plants

Can a hospital boiler plant be replaced without shutting the building down?

Yes, and nearly all of them are. The work is carried by a combination of temporary boilers, phased tie-ins scheduled against census, and sequencing that keeps at least one permanent unit available throughout. The planning takes longer than the installation.

How long does it take to get a temporary boiler on site?

It depends on size, fuel, connection arrangement, and what is already committed, which is exactly why the question is worth asking before you are in a failure. We would rather tell you the honest answer in a planning meeting than under pressure.

How much boiler redundancy does a hospital need?

Enough that losing the largest unit on the coldest night does not reach the patient floors. In practice that usually favors several smaller boilers over one large one, along with a lead and lag sequence somebody has actually exercised.

What does a water management program require of the hot water system?

Programs built on the ASHRAE 188 framework use control measures including temperature management, along with monitoring and documentation. The practical effect on the mechanical side is that storage and delivery temperatures need to hold where the program says they will, and you need records showing they did.

Why does sterile processing drive the plant sizing?

Because autoclaves draw in bursts rather than on a curve, and they set the minimum pressure the plant has to hold. A boiler sized comfortably for the heating season can still disappoint a sterilizer cycle, and the sterilizer is the one nobody can wait on.

Do you work nights and weekends?

Regularly. Most tie-ins in occupied healthcare buildings happen outside normal hours, and our service group runs around the clock for exactly that reason.

Plan It Before You Need It

The worst version of a hospital boiler project is the one that starts with a failure. If your plant is approaching the end of its life, the cheapest hour you will spend is the one where we walk it with you and put a sequence on paper.
